2014 Silverado oil change – what weight are you guys running in summer?
I’ve got a 2014 Silverado with the 5.3 and I’ve always used 5W-30 like the manual says, but a couple of friends here in Abu Dhabi swear that switching to 10W-40 during the hot months helps with the lifter noise and oil pressure drop at idle. I was looking into a Chevrolet full engine oil replacement service and the shop said they recommend sticking to factory specs unless the engine has high mileage, but now I’m confused because half the people I talk to say thicker is better for our climate. Has anyone here actually switched weights on their GM truck and seen a real difference, or is it just placebo? Also curious if running thicker oil causes any issues with the variable valve timing or fuel economy. Don’t want to mess up a perfectly good engine just because I listened to the wrong person.
