Evoque AC suddenly smells like vinegar and I’m praying it’s not another expensive surprise

My wife’s 2016 Evoque has been a bit of a drama queen since we got it but overall we love the little thing, though the other day she picked me up from work and the moment she turned on the AC this sharp vinegary smell filled the cabin and I honestly thought she’d spilled something in the footwell until I realized it was coming straight out of the vents and it only got worse the longer the fan ran, so now I’m doing the usual paranoid Googling and reading about mold in the evaporator core and clogged drain tubes and wondering how much this is going to set me back because the last time something small went wrong with this car it turned into a whole thing with the dealer quoting me for parts that didn’t even need replacing. I’m trying to get ahead of it before the smell turns into something truly unbearable or before it stops blowing cold altogether which in Sharjah in this weather is basically a non negotiable situation, and I found a Range Rover AC Maintenance Center Sharjah that seems to deal with this exact issue on JLR cars regularly so I’m hoping they can just pull the blower motor and give the evaporator a proper clean and maybe treat it with something that stops the bacteria from coming back, anyone else had this funky smell in their Evoque or Sport and actually got it sorted without a full dash removal horror story, I’m crossing my fingers it’s just a dirty filter and a clogged drain line and not another one of those “while we’re in there” situations that Land Rovers are so famous for.
